Monday 7th to Sunday 13th September 2009

Hello

A few months ago I read an article in a magazine about plastic rubbish accumulating in the North Pacific Gyre: here's the link

If you cannot find the time to read it here is a short summary; every bit of plastic created will never be absorbed into the natural environment and is with us forever. It is poisonous and if our increasing consumption of plastic continues we won't be able to live on earth anymore.

My family and I are reducing our plastic consumption and our goal is to be plastic free. This is not an easy goal as since around 1950 everything we do features plastic in some way. Think about this, making your lunch - from the supermarket the cheese, bread, meat and salad is packaged in plastic, at home you unwrap the cheese and slice the portion you require then throw away the original wrap and replace it with cling film so the cheese wont spoil, the ham is removed from its bag and placed in an airtight container and the salad is washed and placed in a bowl or paper bag so it's still fresh tomorrow. Then you assemble the sandwich and wrap it up with more cling film. Before all of this single use plastic consumtion what did people do?.

My objective with this blog is to get anyone else to consider and in any capacity, reduce their plastic consumption. The date has been set to establish a target and I welcome and encourage everyone to be involved and discuss the issue.

Our initial goal is to eliminate single use plastic.

Keep in touch and I'll have more soon.
